YouWhat is EDI, in plain English?
EDI (electronic data interchange) is how companies send business documents to each other as structured data instead of paper, PDF or email. A purchase order, a ship notice or an invoice becomes a file that the other side’s system reads without anyone retyping it.
Both sides agree on a standard (most often X12 in North America and EDIFACT elsewhere), on which documents they exchange, and on how the files travel, usually AS2, SFTP or an API.
